U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) just announced revised filing instructions and addresses for applicants filing an Application for Employment Authorization (Form I-765).
As you may know, Form I-765 is used for F-1 OPT, F-1 Economic Hardship, and J-2 work permission applications.
According to USCIS, the change of filing location is part of an overall effort to transition the intake of some benefit forms from Service Centers to USCIS Lockbox facilities. Centralizing form and fee intake allows USCIS to provide the public more efficient and effective initial processing of applications and fees.
The USCIS will accept things that are misfiled until March 26, 2010. After that, applications incorrectly filed at USCIS Service Centers will be returned to the applicant, with instructions to send the application to the correct location.
One good thing is that people filing at the lockbox can sign up to receive an email and/or text message confirming that the application was accepted by adding Form G-1145 as the first page of the EAD application.
Effective immediately, for F-1 OPT, F-1 Economic Hardship, and J-2 work permission applications, Pennsylvania and New Jersey residents should file the I-765 application at the "Dallas Lockbox" (if the state you will put on form I-765 in item 3 is not PA or NJ, refer to the link below for detailed information on the filing location.)
