Penn Abroad administers a wide range of semester and academic year study abroad opportunities, as well as the summer International Internship Program, and Penn Global Seminars.  These opportunities

  • Advance Penn’s global engagement
  • Represent the diversity of disciplines and regions of the world
  • Promote academic exploration at top-ranking partner institutions worldwide
  • Encourage sustained and deep engagement with other cultures, including language study, when applicable
  • Provide unique opportunities for hands-on learning through Penn’s International Internship Program
  • Integrate into a student’s academic plans at Penn through close collaboration with the four undergraduate schools

Penn Abroad serves the Penn community through:

  • individual advising on study abroad programs and scholarships
  • academic, cultural, and practical preparation for the study abroad experience
  • events to foster ongoing cross-cultural experiences on campus
  • support to the university community for issues related to student travel abroad

About Our Programs

Whenever possible, Penn emphasizes immersion in a university setting alongside local students, typically without Penn personnel on site. The advantages of this kind of educational immersion include:

  • Exposure to other modes of inquiry, disciplinary perspectives, and approaches to university education
  • Interaction with local university peers through your classes, living arrangements, or other campus activities
  • Personal growth through experiences that challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone, increase your understanding of the world, and your place in it.
