Scholarship and Financial Aid FAQs

  • When should I apply for scholarships?
  • Many scholarship deadlines will fall well in advance of program deadlines. The sooner you start the process, the more time you will have to polish your application and meet deadlines. Successful candidates will have worked with and submitted drafts of their essays to their Global Programs Manager or the Director of Penn Abroad in advance of the deadline.

  • How will a study abroad scholarship affect my Penn bill?
  • Regardless of the scholarship, you will always be billed for Penn tuition and the study abroad fee.  Scholarships are either released to you directly or to Penn Abroad. In the latter case, the scholarship will be applied to your student account balance.

  • How do I know what to budget for a semester abroad?
  • Penn Abroad compiles an estimated budget for each of its programs.  The budget can be found on the program brochure page under "budget sheets."  Click on the desired semester to see the most recent budget that has been prepared for that program.
