In order to be considered for a Penn Global Seminar, students must complete an application through the Penn Abroad Portal.  Students should pay attention to deadlines as they will vary from program to program.  Only applications completed by the program deadline will be considered by the selection committee.

  • 3.0 Minimum GPA
  • Students with pending or current OSC charges may be inelligible.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee of Penn Abroad staff and the program faculty leader(s). 

Some programs may invite strong applicants in for an interview. 

In most cases, selected candidates will be notified before advanced registration of their selection and will have two weeks to commit to the program. 

Students who are waitlisted will be notified as they are removed from the waitlist.

Global Seminars Fast Facts

  • Semester-long, on-campus courses with an overseas research or learning component.
  • Available to undergraduates.
  • Faculty members travel with students for overseas component.
  • Small courses, generally no more than 15 students.
  • Most on-the-ground costs are covered through a generous donation from the Hasan and Arifa Ahmad Fund, as well as contributions from Penn's Global Engagement Fund.
  • Program participants typically pay for the cost of airfare to the program
    site, and any personal expenses such as personal meals, immunizations and travel visas.
  • Financial aid packages can be applied to Global Seminars to support the cost of the flight and personal expenses.
