Welcome J-1 Scholars!
Join us for a special in-person orientation to support all J-1 scholars as you navigate your academic journey and cultural exchange at Penn.
The J-1 Scholar Orientation is designed to welcome international scholars and equip them with the essential information needed to successfully participate in their exchange program. During this session, participants will receive an overview of J-1 visa regulations, program requirements, and the responsibilities associated with maintaining lawful immigration status. Key topics include health insurance requirements, cultural exchange objectives and expectations, employment and travel guidelines, and recent updates to federal regulations governing the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program.
This interactive session allows scholars to meet international office staff, connect with fellow J-1 participants, ask questions, and become familiar with the institution and surrounding community. Attendance is an important part of the onboarding process and helps ensure scholars understand their rights, responsibilities, and available support throughout their program.
At the end of the orientation, interested attendees may participate in a guided campus tour.
