Immigration USCIS Resumes Premium Processing for H-1B Petitions

June 1, 2020
By ISSS

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that it will resume premium processing service for H-1B petitions in phases, beginning on June 8, 2020. Premium processing is a service that requires the government to take action on an H-1B petition within 15 days of receiving the request. USCIS’ announcement states that premium processing will be made available as follows.

  • Effective June 8, USCIS will accept premium processing requests for:
    • H-1B petitions filed before June 8th that are pending adjudication
    • All other I-129 petitions (non-H-1B petitions) for nonimmigrant classifications eligible for premium processing filed before June 8 that are pending adjudication.
  • Effective June 15, USCIS plans to resume premium processing for:
    • H-1B petitions requesting premium processing by filing an I-907 concurrently with the initial I-129 petition.

If you have a currently pending H-1B petition that you would like to upgrade to premium processing, or you are working with ISSS on an H-1B petition that will be filed after June 15 and would like to request premium processing from USCIS, please be sure to order a check for $1440 to include with the filing along with the other checks as indicated by the assigned ISSS advisor. When requesting checks from Accounts Payable, please remember to indicate the employee’s name in the “description” box in the Penn Marketplace. Step-by-step guidance on requesting checks is available here.

Please see here for the full announcement from USCIS. As a reminder, USCIS had previously suspended premium processing for H-1B in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
