The Penn Project on the Future of U.S.-China Relations
The Penn Project on the Future of U.S.-China Relations is delighted to announce the selection of its third class of undergraduate Student Fellows, made up of ten outstanding students at the University of Pennsylvania. Their profiles are presented on our website at https://global.upenn.edu/future-of-us-china-relations/student-fellows-2026-2027/.
Student fellows are an integral part of the Project community, benefiting from informal interactions with leading scholars and other experts on U.S.-China relations, as well as more formal research opportunities and professional mentoring. Over the course of each academic year at Penn, student fellows meet regularly in person, join virtual dialogues with the wider Project community, enjoy special opportunities to interact with occasional visitors the Project brings to campus, and are encouraged to publish a short commentary on some aspect of U.S.-China policy on the Project website. The program is described further at https://global.upenn.edu/future-of-us-china-relations/student-fellows/.
Alongside the Project’s primary work of developing recommendations for U.S. policy toward China from professionally-established next generation China scholars and analysts, our undergraduate student fellows program further reinforces and contributes to the Project’s overall mission of bridging academic insight and policy relevance in deepening U.S. capacity to understand, evaluate, and address critical issues in the U.S.-China relationship.
“This year’s cohort of ten undergraduate student fellows was selected our of our most competitive applicant pool yet,” stated Neysun Mahboubi, the Director of the Penn Project on the Future of U.S.-China Relations. “All of them seniors, each of this year’s Student Fellows has taken both substantive and language courses on China at Penn, and almost all of them have studied abroad in mainland China or Hong Kong during their undergraduate studies as well. Including now through our program, they are well-positioned to serve as leading China experts in the future, contributing to the field of U.S.-China relations in much the same ways as we expect from our Project Fellows today.”
The Penn Project on the Future of U.S.-China Relations, an initiative of Penn Global, is supported by Penn’s China Research & Engagement Fund, the Henry Luce Foundation, the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, and the Ford Foundation.
