Carlyn Reichel is the Penn Biden Center’s Director of Communications. Reichel was Vice President Biden’s foreign policy speechwriter from September 2015 through the end of the administration, helping the Vice President craft major addresses on everything from regional policy priorities to the importance of defending the liberal international order.
Reichel previously served as speechwriter on the National Security Council, writing principally for National Security Advisor Susan Rice and contributing foreign policy remarks for President Obama. Prior to that, Reichel worked in the Office of Policy Planning at the Department of State as a speechwriter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
In each of these roles, Reichel worked closely with senior leaders in the Obama Administration; coordinated messages across the U.S. government foreign policy apparatus; and helped advance major initiatives including the Paris Climate Agreement, Iran Nuclear Deal, Asia Rebalance, and America’s commitment to elevating the status of women around the world.
Reichel joined the U.S. Department of State in 2009 as a Presidential Management Fellow where she worked on public diplomacy initiatives. She earned her Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and her B.A. with Distinction from Stanford University.
