Daniel Schneiderman Joins Penn Washington as the Inaugural Director of Global Policy Programs
Penn Washington is pleased to welcome Daniel Schneiderman as our new Director of Global Policy Programs. In this role, Daniel will lead the development and execution of Penn Washington’s global policy initiatives, connecting the University’s intellectual resources with policymakers and policy influencers working on pressing international challenges.

Daniel arrives following a distinguished career spanning the Pentagon, State Department, National Security Council, and Capitol Hill. Most recently, he served as Senior Coordinator for Afghanistan at the Department of Defense, where he reported directly to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and led the official DoD liaison to the Afghanistan War Commission.
Before joining the Pentagon, Daniel served as Deputy Special Representative for Guantanamo Affairs at the State Department. Prior to the Biden-Harris Administration, he was Head of Advocacy and Research at International Crisis Group, shaping the organization’s engagement with the Executive Branch and Congress on global conflict issues. He also served on the NSC staff as Director for Yemen and at the State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism.
Daniel is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security. He holds a B.A. from George Washington University and an M.A. from Johns Hopkins SAIS.
