Penn Washington has joined Ground Shift, a new cross-partisan initiative dedicated to developing bold ideas for the future stewardship of America’s public lands and waters.

Ground Shift brings together thought-leaders, scholars, and advocates from across the political spectrum to generate dialogue and fresh thinking about how the United States should manage its public lands and waters to meet the needs of current and future generations. The initiative is guided by an advisory council that includes former senior officials from both Democratic and Republican administrations, conservation leaders, and Indigenous voices.

Elizabeth Klein, Director of Domestic Policy Programs at Penn Washington,  will provide input to Ground Shift as part of the Fueling Climate Change Solutions policy impact program. She will also work to connect Penn colleagues whose research focuses on public lands, conservation, and environmental policy with the initiative’s broader dialogue.

Penn Washington joins six other leading university partners, including programs at the University of Arizona, Colorado State University, University of Colorado, Harvard Law School, University of Montana, and the University of Utah. Together, these partners will support convenings, elevate emerging scholarship, and create opportunities for academics to share expertise with policymakers.
