I have had the amazing opportunity to live in Ireland while completing a nursing research internship at Trinity College Dublin. My research focuses on the co-design of nursing curricula, which means looking at how nursing education can be developed collaboratively with students, faculty, and healthcare professionals. It has been such a rewarding experience because I have been able to learn more about nursing research while seeing how education can continue to evolve to better prepare future nurses.
One of the best parts of this experience has been getting to explore Ireland outside of work. Almost every weekend, I have taken day trips to different parts of the country to hike, visit beaches, and see some of Ireland’s most famous cliffs and mountains. No matter where I go, the scenery is incredible. From standing on cliffs overlooking the ocean to hiking through green mountains, every trip has been different and has given me a new appreciation for Ireland’s natural beauty. I have also spent a lot of time visiting beaches along the coast. Even when the weather is unpredictable, the views are always worth it. There is something so peaceful about walking along the shoreline or sitting on the cliffs and watching the waves crash against the rocks. These trips have been a great way to relax after busy weeks of research.

One thing that still makes me laugh is how there are sheep literally everywhere. Whether I am hiking, driving through the countryside, or even just exploring small towns, there always seems to be a field full of sheep nearby. It has definitely become one of the things I will always associate with Ireland. One of my favorite experiences so far was spending a day at a local farm where I got to help take care of the animals. It was such a fun way to experience everyday life in rural Ireland and get up close with the animals. It is not something I ever imagined I would get to do, but it ended up being one of the highlights of my summer.
Overall, this summer has been the perfect combination of learning and adventure. My internship at Trinity College has helped me grow professionally, while exploring Ireland has allowed me to experience places I have always wanted to visit. I have made so many great memories already, and I know this is an experience I will always look back on with gratitude. I am excited to keep exploring and make the most of the rest of my time here.
