Two Penn students have been selected as CASA Historical Memory Fellows for the Spring 2019 semester. This research opportunity takes place over the course of the semester and students from across the Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA) programs participate. This semester, there are nineteen students conducting research projects in six countries.

Daniel Leva (Huntsman '21) is spending the semester studying abroad at CASA Barcelona. For the fellowship, Daniel is conducting research on the Catalonia district and how historical memory is be preserved, shared, and can evolve in response to a tide of external pressure.

Grace Seeley (Huntsman '21) is studying abroad at CASA Sevilla, She is conducting research on the effects of historical memory, both Francoism and current historical memory initiatives, on day-to-day Sevillian culture. In this study, Grace will also broadly look at how Sevilla is attempting to conserve the memory of Francoism without glorifying the era.

As part of the program, fellows attend the annual Historical Memory Fellows symposium to meet the other participating students and to share research topics.
