PGS: Communicating Change in Mongolia

Aaron Sebastian is a freshman from Las Vegas, NV studying International Relations and Economics. This semester, he is travelling to Mongolia, including Ulaanbaatar and rural ger districts, through the Penn Global Seminar and the Critical Writing Seminar programs, where he will explore how changes in urbanization, population patterns, and climate impact Mongolia. On campus, Aaron serves as the Finance Chair of Abuse and Sexual Assault Prevention (ASAP) and conducts research at Perry World House. He is also involved in Penn Climate Ventures, the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project, Wharton Undergraduate Venture Group, and Penn Masti. Motivated to enact positive impact, Aaron has worked at the crossroads of policymaking, youth advocacy, and innovation through both his own initiatives, and deep community involvement. Outside of academics, Aaron enjoys weekly treks to Center City rating food on Beli, enjoys dance practices at Platt with friends, or finding new hiking and nature-watching spots. He is deeply interested in creating a world that has a seat at the table for every unheard voice.

During this upcoming trip, he’s excited to…

  • Try traditional Mongolian cuisine
  • Live in a ger camp in the Mongolian steppes
  • Meet up with Pen(n) pals and learn about the Mongolian education system
  • Speak to community partners about how they navigate changing dynamics
  • Explore Mongolia’s rich history through museums and culture expeditions
  • See horses!
