PGS: Case Studies in Environmental Sustainability
Cameron Kim is a sophomore from Los Angeles, California, studying Biology. This spring, she had the opportunity to take a Penn Global Seminar with Professor Plante, where she developed an interdisciplinary understanding of environmental sustainability and became familiar with the unique narratives of case studies. She’ll be wrapping up the semester with a class trip to Iceland this May. On campus, Cameron is a research assistant at the Wood Lab, exploring the ecological interactions between legume species and their bacterial and parasitic counterparts. She is also a volunteer at the Shelter Health Outreach Program, where she raises awareness on hypertension and works to make healthcare more accessible to the Philadelphia community. With a soft spot in her heart for delicious meals and creative projects, Cameron currently serves as Photo Director for Penn Appetit, the student-run food magazine on campus. Her interest in animal behavior has also inspired her to help out at a local animal hospital. When she’s not working, you can find her in the kitchen cooking up tacos, enjoying the sun outside with friends on Highrise Green, or taking a walk accompanied by a playlist of Brent Faiyaz and Daniel Caesar.
During her upcoming trip to Iceland, she is looking forward to…
- Hiking in the Icelandic Highlands
- Enjoying a hearty dinner with her classmates, trying Kjötsúpa and Icelandic Lobster for the first time
- Pronouncing Eyjafjallajökull correctly while (hopefully) watching it erupt in a nonhazardous manner
- Seeing Arctic Terns, the longest migratory species, feeding their newborns
- Snapping cool shots with her new camera and a tight grip on the neck strap
- Finding keychains for her growing collection and for her family
