PGS: Lactation and Public Health: Health Advocacy in the Dominican Republic
Gloria Cheng is a senior from New York studying Nursing and Healthcare Management & Policy. This spring break, she’ll travel to the Dominican Republic through a Penn Global Seminar to explore lactation and birthplace advocacy.
At Penn, Gloria has served as President of the Penn Beekeeping Club, traveled to Italy and Spain to learn about their healthcare systems, conducted lactation research in Australia, trained as a birth doula, taught peers personal finance as Vice President of Common Cents, and helped grow and distribute 1,000+ pounds of produce at the Penn Farm.
Outside the classroom, you’ll find her cooking and creating content at Quaker Kitchen, learning how to ballroom dance, and hosting oh-too-many dinner parties.
During her upcoming trip, she is looking forward to:
- Learning from grassroots leaders in Santo Domingo and Consuelo
- Whale watching
- Conducting site visits to CHOP Consuelo
- Running through the Santo Domingo Colonial District
- Basking in the Caribbean sun
