Michelle Lin

Wharton ’27
SA: Tsinghua University of Economics and Management

Michelle Lin is a rising senior at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is concentrating in Finance and Management, with a minor in East Asian Studies.

In the fall of 2026, she will be studying abroad at Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management. There, she hopes to deepen her understanding of Chinese business, global markets, and the role China plays in the international economy. Growing up in Philadelphia as the daughter of Chinese immigrants, Michelle never imagined she would have the opportunity to live and study in China. As a first generation college student, she is especially grateful for the chance to reconnect with her cultural roots while gaining a global perspective.

On campus, Michelle is actively involved in both academic and community initiatives. She works as a Chinese tutor at Penn, supporting students in their language learning and helping them build confidence in both speaking and comprehension.

In her free time, she enjoys exploring Philadelphia, café hopping, trying specialty coffee, and finding hidden gems around the city. She also enjoys learning new languages, traveling, and scrap booking. Overall, she is excited to step outside her comfort zone, meet new people, and fully immerse herself in a new environment during her time abroad.

This Fall, she is looking forward to:
● Improving her Mandarin and deepening her understanding of Chinese culture
● Exploring Beijing and nearby cities while trying local foods and finding hidden gems
● Learning more about China’s history, business environment, and global influence
● Experiencing China’s innovative technology and fast-evolving digital landscape
● Connecting with students, professionals, and local communities
