Sarah Mosalem

CAS ’27
PGS: Pacific Worlds: Vietnam

Sarah Mosalem is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Cognitive Science & Computer Science with a minor in Economic Policy. This semester, she’ll travel to Vietnam, where she is excited to explore how histories of trade, migration, war, and cultural exchange have shaped Vietnam and the wider Asia-Pacific region. She was drawn to the course because she is especially interested in the ways Asian societies are connected to one another, and in how looking beyond national borders can open up a fuller understanding of history and modern life.

On campus, Sarah is involved in the Japanese Student Association, works as a campus tour guide, and participates in club gymnastics. Outside the classroom, you’ll usually find her trying new restaurants and coffee shops around Philadelphia, walking by the river, or hiking whenever she gets the chance. She is especially excited to bring her love of food, culture, and learning into the trip as she visits Hanoi, Mai Chau, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Mekong Delta, while learning from museums, historical sites, and conversations with local students.

During her upcoming trip, she is particularly looking forward to

  • Visiting the floating market in the Mekong Delta
  • Visiting the War Remnants Museum
  • Learning from local students at Fulbright
  • Trying pho and experiencing Vietnamese food in Vietnam itself
  • Enjoying the lush green valley of Mai Chau and spending time outside the city!
