My Experience:

My experience at Keru, an education consultancy startup in Shanghai, China, allowed me to tap into my academic interests of decision sciences and marketing, while exposing me to social impact and education, two personal interests of mine. While at Keru, I was able to serve as a consultant on a fundraising campaign for a Chinese non-profit, revise Keru's employees' performance incentives, and organize a monthly company presentation series for stakeholders. Not only was I able to hone my pre-existing skills in project management and communication, but I was also able to learn skills such as consulting, pitching, and employee management.

Other Highlights:

  • Meeting a fellow intern who turned out to be best friends with my roommate — such a small world!

  • Getting to know my supervisors and talking about psychology, politics, and Chinese culture with them

  • Mentoring 5 Chinese school students on a consulting project — it was so rewarding to work across cultural and language barriers
