Ask me about...

  • Making friends in another language

  • Establishing a network abroad

My Experience Abroad:

I chose to study abroad in China because I major in international relations. Chinese-American foreign relations are at an all-time high point of contentiousness, so I chose to focus on that in my classes. I also intend to write my senior thesis on some aspect of Chinese diplomacy, so studying in Shanghai made the most sense. Learning about Chinese politics from a Chinese perspective was extremely informative.

Other Highlights:

  • Getting to volunteer at a panda bear sanctuary in Szechuan Province

  • Visiting the Nanjing Massacre Museum and witnessing history unfold

  • Making Chinese friends and spending time with them without the use of English

  • Trying different cuisines from different parts of China

  • Hiking up to see Tian Tian Buddha, the largest seated Buddha in the world
