My Experience Abroad:

As a dental student, being given the opportunity to see what dentistry is like in another country was amazing. The most impactful thing I got out of this was the opportunity to see a lot of the cases I learned about in the classroom during my first year of dental school. Being able to combine what I have learned through my didactic courses and apply them to practical situations, really emphasized to me the importance of taking pride in what I am learning in dental school. This has definitely been an unforgettable and impactful experience.

Other Highlights:

  • Making amazing friends in the surrounding community

  • Trying new cuisine and learning how to make authentic Gambian food

  • Observing what dentistry is like in Africa

  • Going to a Gambian traditional wedding and learning about their unique customs
