Portrait of Sarah
Middlebury School in Jordan
Political Science '24

Sarah is a junior in the College, studying political science and Modern Middle Eastern Studies. She will be spending the spring semester in Amman, Jordan, studying at the University of Jordan through its Middlebury program. From an Iraqi-Arab background, she has always held a special love for the Middle East and has gone on to incorporate that care into her studies at Penn. She is excited for the opportunity to live in the Middle East, learn a new dialect, and work on her academic Arabic abilities with a full course load of classes in Arabic! She is also excited to learn from another perspective on middle eastern politics and culture that’s generally not taught in the US. At Penn, she is involved with the Muslim Student Association, Penn Leads the Vote, Questbridge Scholars Network, Civic House programs, and Netter Center. For fun, she enjoys photography, scenic walks, and testing new baked oats recipes.

A few things she is most excited about…

  • Spending Ramadan and Eid in a Muslim country

  • And hearing the adhan recited in streets before prayers

  • Getting to know her host family

  • Visiting historical sites

  • Eating so much mansaf
