SA: CASA Sevilla

Program Abroad:

  • Semester Abroad (SA): Penn Semester in Seville: Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA), Spain

Ask me about...

  • Being abroad (and in Europe!) for the first time

  • Living with a host family

  • Taking classes in a foreign language (Spanish) abroad

  • Traveling in Europe alone and/or with friends

  • Applying to history honors thesis program while abroad in the fall

My Experience Abroad:

Before going abroad, I declared my history major and had a minor in Hispanic studies planned out. After being abroad and returning to Penn, I bumped up my minor to a second major and chose my concentration in European history. Also, I formed the idea for my senior honors thesis in history, met with my future mentor/advisor, and applied for the program while abroad. I also began preliminary research and used the resources and connections I made while abroad to set myself up well for the upcoming project.

Other Highlights:

  • Living with my host family and becoming close to native Sevillanos

  • Traveling throughout Spain and throughout Europe with small groups of friends and family members who visited me

  • Learning in a higher education environment that was VERY different from Penn; it served as an opportunity to adapt and grow but also view academics from a new perspective
