  • GRIP: Nursing Research in Dublin

Ask me about...

For my experience, other students should definitely ask me about being/traveling around Europe for the first time! I really tried to explore every avenue that there was to Dublin, and I think I can give some pretty good tips about exploration and learning to live in cities (somewhat) like a local! I also think that other students can ask me about giving research presentations/what it was like to do research in Trinity because I was able to do quite a bit in my time there (writing/editing a research article for publication, performing PPI by creating an EasyRead survey and meeting with a person with Down Syndrome, and developing and performing a scoping review). Students can also ask me about staying in a Homestay!

My Experience Abroad:

My 8 weeks in Dublin really helped me learn more about nursing research and the different avenues that I can take as a researcher that I've never been able to explore. Research is such a vital part to improving healthcare outcomes, and participating in research is such a great way to learn about different perspectives and experiences that can shape healthcare and its practices. As I move forward in my Penn Nursing career, I know that I will encounter the field of research and have to develop skills relating to research, and having the GRIP experience really helped to lay down some strong foundations. Not only this, but I learned about how much I actually do love to do research and am so grateful for the opportunity to do it in such a wonderful place like Dublin!

Other Highlights:

  • Travelling around Europe and Ireland (I was able to see the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Brussels, Rome, and parts of Switzerland)

  • Hiking in Dublin (there are so many lovely walking paths and hiking spots that are less than an hour away from the central part of Dublin)

  • Learning how to create an EasyRead survey and meeting with a Down Syndrome consultant for feedback

  • Exploring the city of Dublin by hopping from farmer's market to farmer's market
