Justice Antonio T. Carpio was sworn in as a member of the Supreme Court of the Philippines in 2001. He obtained his law degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law, graduating valedictorian and cum laude. In 1992, he was appointed Chief Presidential Legal Counsel, Office of the President of the Philippines. He is the recipient of numerous awards, such as the Presidential Medal of Merit from the President of the Philippines. He is the author of The South China Sea Dispute: Philippine Sovereign Rights and Jurisdiction in the West Philippine Sea. Currently, he is the Chair of the Second Division of the Supreme Court and Chair of the Senate Electoral Tribunal. He received his undergraduate degree in economics from Ateneo de Manila University and his law degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law.
