Helmut Aust is a professor of public and international law at Freie Universität Berlin's Department of Law. He is the author of Complicity and the Law of State Responsibility (CUP 2011) as well as of Das Recht der globalen Stadt (The Law of the Global City, Mohr Siebeck 2017). He is also a Senior Fellow of Melbourne Law School and the Co-Chair of the ILA Study Group on the role of cities in international law. He previously held roles at Humboldt University, the University of Munich, and the University of Konstanz. He has also served as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge's Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, and a Visiting Scholar at Melbourne Law School's Institute of International Law and the Humanities. Helmut Aust studied law at the University of Göttingen and Université Paris XII, and received his Ph.D. from Humboldt University.
