Penn Global provides strategic direction to the University of Pennsylvania on its global endeavors, with a focus on the efficient investment of university resources.

Encompassing seven reporting offices, Penn Global leverages its broad and deep expertise to advise the University on its global activities and to collaborate with Penn’s schools, centers, communities and partners to deliver a comprehensive suite of global programming that generates positive impact around the world.

Our Strategic Framework

The Strategic Framework for Penn’s Global Initiatives aligns institutional priorities with constituent needs to pursue a coordinated, sustainable approach to global engagement, ensuring the University continues as a preeminent university in the U.S. and world in global engagement and academic diplomacy. The University’s first global strategic framework was adopted in 2012 and subsequently updated in 2018 and 2023.

At the core of the five-year strategic framework are three pillars: 1) Ensure every Penn student has a meaningful global experience, 2) Produce research for global impact and 3) Advocate for global engagement, rebuilding and strengthening global networks.

Our Offices

Penn Global encompasses seven offices: the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Initiatives (Global Initiatives), Penn Abroad, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Global Support Services (GSS), Perry World House, Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, and Penn Global Finance and Administration. Each office offers a range of expertise, services, and programming to advance the University’s global mission.

We offer an array of services and technical expertise (e.g., immigration and integration, travel and risk management, and global program development, etc.) as well as subject matter, region- and country-specific knowledge in support of Penn’s global campus, operations, and activities.

Our Campus Partners

Penn’s campus is a vibrant reflection of the University’s global community and reach, with over 6,000 international students enrolled at Penn annually, 2,500 students studying abroad, 1,400 faculty reporting activities across all seven continents, and 600 partnerships with institutions around the world.
