Latin America & the Caribbean Call for Proposals for the PLAC 6th Annual Conference

June 21, 2022
By PLAC Steering Committee

The theme of the 6th Annual PLAC Conference will be: Shared Narratives: Arts, Culture, and Conflict in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Penn in Latin America and Caribbean (PLAC) Steering Committee will host the 6th annual PLAC conference on September 23, 2022 at Perry World House.

Varied artistic expressions in music, painting, literature, graffiti, cinema, and others have the potential to promote reflection and critical thinking. They can also be powerful tools for cooperation, healing and resilience. How do the arts reflect our shared narratives, and the most pressing issues of our times? What roles do the arts play in times of peace and conflict, progress and crisis? The 6th annual PLAC conference, titled Shared Narratives: Arts, Culture and Conflict in Latin America and the Caribbean, will feature presentations from all disciplines, as they point to, or draw from, the intersections between the arts, social change, conflict and healing in the region.

To participate in the conference, faculty and students are invited to submit proposals for 5-minute presentations, in any format – traditional talks, short stories, digital posters, videos, poems, photographs, demonstrations, etc. – that relate to one or more of the questions or topics described above.

Submit your proposals to the PLAC Steering Committee by July 15th with the following information:

  • Title of presentation
  • Abstract (up to 250 words)
  • List of author(s), including position and institutional affiliation
  • Preference for presentation format
