War Risk Countries
Penn’s travel insurance is limited in countries identified by the insurance company as having a war risk.
War Risk
A country experiencing war, civil unrest, or similar hostile situations may be labeled by Penn’s insurance company as having a war risk. The current list* of war risk countries includes:
- Afghanistan
- Belarus
- Iraq
- Israel including West Bank and Gaza Strip
- Lebanon
- Russia
- Somalia
- South Sudan
- Sudan
- Syria
- Ukraine
- Yemen
*This list is maintained and updated as needed by the insurance company.
Insurance Exclusions
Penn travelers in war risk countries do NOT have insurance coverage for security evacuation, medical expenses if injured in an act of war, subsequent medical evacuation, repatriation of remains, and accidental death and dismemberment.
Penn-affiliated Travel to War Risk Countries
If a Penn student, faculty or staff member has plans to travel on a Penn-affiliated trip to a country on the war risk list, please contact the Office of Risk Management and Insurance well in advance of travel. Penn travel to war risk countries requires the sponsoring school/center to complete an acknowledgment of the insurance exclusion prior to departure.
