Travel Guidelines and Winter Break Hours
As winter break approaches, we wants to ensure F-1 Students are prepared for any upcoming international travel.
ISSS Winter Break Hours:
We will be closing at 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 24th and will reopen on Monday, January 5th, 2026 at 9:00am. Please submit any non-emergency requests with this schedule in mind.
✈️ Required Documents for Re-Entry to the U.S.:
When returning to the United States, you must present the following to Customs and Border Protection (CBP):
- Valid passport
- Printed Form I-20 with a valid travel signature
- Valid F-1 entry visa (Canadian and Bermudian citizens are exempt)
- For students on OPT/STEM OPT: Valid EAD card and job offer letter
⚠️ Please Note: CBP officers may inspect electronic devices at the border. Any problematic information found could be grounds for denial of entry.
🔍 Before You Travel Checklist:
- Check Your Travel Signature: Signatures are valid for 12 months (enrolled students) or 6 months (OPT/STEM OPT students). Request an updated signature via the travel signature eForm in iPenn if needed.
- Check Your F-1 Visa: Ensure your visa will be valid upon your return. If renewal is needed, schedule an appointment well in advance. Important: Travel solely for visa renewal is not required if you are maintaining status (including on OPT). Consult your ISSS advisor for guidance.
