Before arriving at Penn, it’s crucial to complete necessary preparations:
Access iPenn
iPenn is an online system that allows you to access information about your status as an international scholar at Penn, request documents, and submit information and updates to ISSS. You will use iPenn to complete your check-in, request extensions, and manage other aspects of your time at Penn.
Prepare for Your Arrival
- Immigration Documentation: Ensure you have secured the appropriate visa and have all required immigration documents. ISSS assists international scholars in obtaining the necessary paperwork to enter the U.S via iPenn.
- Housing: Explore housing options in Philadelphia. Penn offers resources to help you find suitable accommodations.
- Health Insurance: Familiarize yourself with healthcare and medical insurance requirements. It’s essential to have adequate coverage during your stay.
Mandatory Check-In and Orientation
Upon arrival, all international scholars must complete the following:
- Check-In: Federal regulations require F-1 and J-1 international scholars to register their presence at Penn by completing a check-in with ISSS. This involves completing a tutorial and an arrival form in iPenn, the online system for managing your status.
- Orientation: ISSS provides orientation sessions to introduce you to the university community, resources, and U.S. culture. These sessions are designed to help you acclimate to your new environment.
