Updated Process for Submitting Documents for H-1B Cases
By: ISSS
As we have transitioned to remote work, ISSS has been working to implement processes to increase efficiency in immigration processing. In that spirit, we have updated our H-1B application process so that departments and potential H-1B employees can upload the required documents using our eforms. The updated process will be as follows:
- Departments will initiate an H-1B application in iPenn.
- Employees will complete eform 2 and upload their required documents to that eform
- If the employee completed eform 2 prior to this change, the assigned ISSS advisor will be reaching out to them to collect this information.
- If you have already collected the necessary employee documents prior to this change, please feel free to email them to the advisor once the case has been assigned.
- After completing eform 4, the hiring department must review and submit the supporting documentation listed on the “Required Items from Hiring Department Checklist” and upload each individual document to eform 5.
- The “Required Items from Hiring Department Checklist” and its generated PDF documents is still accessed the same way as before; by clicking on “View/Print Most Recent H-1B Request” when on the employee’s case in iPenn
- After you submit eform 5, we strongly recommend that you save a copy of the materials and forms, including checks, submitted to ISSS for your records. To do this, navigate to the employee’s H-1B Employee Application page and click the button underneath eform 5 that says “View/Save/Print E-Form Group” to generate a PDF.
- If the employee completed the updated eform 2 where they uploaded their documents, these attachments will be included as well
- Once eform 5 has been received, a specialist will review the submitted eforms and assign the case to an ISSS adviser. The department will receive a confirmation email once the case is assigned.
Note that going forward, we no longer need the department to collect employee documents. The H-1B employee will upload copies of these documents when completing their portion of the eform.
As a reminder filing fee checks still must be submitted as Non-PO Payment Requests through the Penn Marketplace.
Thank you all for your continued cooperation during these trying times.
