RedBeard Talent- Sydney, Australia

As I reach the last few days of my global internship, I’m shocked at how quickly the time went by. Reflecting back on the beginning of my internship with RedBeard Talent, I recall feelings of excitement being overshadowed by fear and concern. Completing an internship located across the world in my childhood home felt impossible; how could I possibly do a good job?

I wish I could tell my pre-internship self, it would be okay. Your supervisor will be kind, welcoming, and willing to help throughout the entire internship. Having the opportunity to work alongside another Penn student will be tremendously helpful. You guys will tackle issues together, come up with creative solutions, and have the opportunity to connect with unique start-ups from several different industries.

I would tell them that you, and your other GRIP peers, are proof that a virtual, global internship is very possible. Over these past few weeks, you’ve been able to produce quality work that you’re proud of for RedBeard Talent. Even though your advisor presented a seemingly unsolvable issue at the beginning of your internship, you’ve dedicated yourself to working towards finding an implementable plan for the company. You’ve succeeded in presenting unique pricing models that challenge the norms of the recruiting industry.

Now don’t get me wrong, you will face challenges along the way. There will be times when you have absolutely no idea what to do or even what steps to take to find a solution to your problem. But, you don’t give up. Your RedBeard co-workers will be a valuable resource when you are stunted and give you great advice! Their outside perspective will be beneficial in helping you think outside the box. Just remember that challenges are inevitable- do not get discouraged.

These challenges that you face, although annoying at the time, will prove extremely valuable over time. These hurdles in your internship will teach you important skills about resilience, critical thinking, and communication. These are only a few of the several skills you will learn and develop during your time with RedBeard Talent. From more of a technical standpoint, you will gain valuable insight on how to write case studies, hold professional meetings, and understand business strategy. All these skills will be helpful in all of your future professional endeavors.

In conclusion, thank you to RedBeard Talent and the GRIP program for making this summer experience worthwhile.

The Global Research and Internship Program (GRIP) provides outstanding undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to intern or conduct research abroad for 8 to 12 weeks over the summer. Participants gain career-enhancing experience and global exposure that is essential in a global workforce.
