Generations for Peace - Amman, Jordan

I have always been very confident in what I want to do. My interest in international affairs, human rights, and security has been deep set since my childhood as I grew up in a very international community, surrounded by different cultures and people. Due to my Syrian background, I have also always had a passion for Middle Eastern culture. Living and working in Jordan allows me to explore this passion, learning more about the people and places than I ever could in a classroom.

My time at Generations for Peace has only reaffirmed by goals. Through learning more about Middle Eastern culture and what difficulties people, specifically children, here and around the world are faced by, such as resettlement and reintegration after being forced to leave their home, gender inequality, and human rights violations, I am even more motivated to break into the world of international law and security.

Generations for peace is dedicated to empowering youth through a variety of methods in order to maintain and create peace in their communities at a grassroots level through sport, arts, advocacy, and dialogue. The organization addresses many important and different issues such as inter-ethnic and religious violence, gender inequality, exclusion of minorities, and refugee resettlement. Seeing how they operate and the incredible work that they do, I am absolutely sure that I want to work at a higher, legal level to enact change.

With an ever-changing global landscape, the field of human rights is extremely important. Governments rise and fall, laws change, and wars break out; all of these things impact people and their livelihoods, and others have to be there to ensure their health, happiness, and rights. More than anything, I want a career in which I can help people, I want to be able to advocate for and fight for human rights. I come from a place of immense privilege with access to quality education and day-to-day stability and feel the duty to help others that do not.

Generations for Peace directly helps people lead better lives and learn how to accept others’ differences. It has been a pleasure to contribute to this mission and I hope to continue doing so throughout my life. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that I want to keep fighting for the stability and safety of others.
