Penn Abroad is excited to announce the Fall 2025 Passport Drive, which will be held on October 29, 2025.
U.S. Passport Agents will be available to aid students in applying for new (first-time) adult U.S. passports. Registration for this event is required and will close on October 7, or when spots are full.
Please note that passport processing time will take up to 8 weeks and should not be relied upon for spring 2026 international travel.
Eligibility Requirements
Qualified students who have never held a US passport are eligible to apply for a fully funded passport. Funded passports are limited, and applications will be reviewed in the order that they are received. Those not selected for a funded passport will be placed on a waitlist and may be funded as spots become available.
Qualifications to be eligible for a fully funded passport:
- Both Graduate and Undergraduate students at Penn may apply, however, undergraduate student applications will be prioritized.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be applying for a new (first-time) passport as an adult. Students are still eligible to apply to the Passport Drive event if they have previously held a Child’s Passport Under 16.
- Must be available for an in-person appointment on October 29, 2025.
- Priority will be given to undergraduate students in the classes of 2028 and 2029.
- Priority will be given to undergraduate students that receive financial aid.
Required Documents
Prior to participating in the Fall 2025 Passport Drive, Penn Abroad will conduct a materials check to ensure that each applicant has the necessary documents to receive a U.S. Passport. Please carefully review the documents required to apply for a U.S. Passport on the State Department website and make sure you have the following materials in-hand to complete a materials check with Penn Abroad staff October 6-October 20, 2025.
1. To apply for a U.S. Passport, you must provide evidence of U.S. Citizenship through one of the following:
- U.S. birth certificate that meets the following requirements:
- Issued by the city, county, or state of birth
- Lists your full name, date of birth, and place of birth
- Lists your parent(s)’ full names
- Has the date filed with registrar’s office (must be within one year of birth)
- Has the registrar’s signature
- Has the seal or stamp from the city, county, or state which issued it
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Certificate of Citizenship
2. You must also present one photo identification document as outlined on the Photo Identification page of the State Department website.
3. Passport photos will be funded through the PennCard Center. Before participating in the Fall 2024 Passport Drive, you will be asked to make an appointment at the PennCard Center to have your Passport photo taken.
