Food for the Seoul

GRIP: Media in Seoul in Seoul, South Korea

Embarking upon my summer journey in Seoul as a marketing intern has brought forth already many unforgettable experiences, blending creative workdays with the vibrant energy of this dynamic city. From navigating new neighborhoods, collecting photobooth memories with friends, to sharing delicious meals, every moment brings something new and exciting. My time here so far has fulfilled me in more ways than one — leaving both my heart and stomach satisfied!

If anything thus far, Seoul has taught me the importance of good meals and even better sweet treats. As a foodie myself, I’ve found myself overwhelmed with the abundance of great food and cafés. Whether spending time with my peers from Penn, eating lunches with the other interns from my company, or meeting up with friends in the area, sharing food together is almost always a common denominator.

One of the best parts of living in Seoul this summer is diving into its incredible food scene. Every corner of the city seems to offer something mouthwatering — from sizzling barbecue and spicy tteokbokki to delicate banchan side dishes that keep you coming back for more. But what really made these meals special was sharing them with others. Eating in Korea isn’t just about the food itself; it’s about the connection, the laughter, and the stories that flow around the table. Food becomes a way to build friendships and create memories that stick with you way beyond the last bite.

I can’t even count how many times I’ve audibly gasped at the top tier quality and taste of different foods here (and the incredible bang for your buck). From vibrant street food vendors out in Myeongdong, incredible hand-crafted noodles in Incheon’s Chinatown district, to trendy delicacies like salt bread found in Seongsu, I’ve never taken so many food pics!

I am eager to see what amazing experiences (and eats) await me for the rest of my time in Seoul!
