Money Matters
Basic Page Sidebar Menu Penn Abroad
Penn Abroad is committed to making its global opportunities financially accessible to all students. Whether you receive financial aid from Penn or not, you may be eligible to receive financial assistance for your program abroad. All Penn students who wish to pursue a global program can do so - and that includes you! Depending on the timing and format of the program, the policies and funding models vary.
Funding for Semester Abroad
Students participating in a Semester Abroad (SA) program can use their financial aid and scholarships, in most cases, just as they would at Penn. For detailed information about financing your semester study abroad program, please review the SA Financial Information page.
Funding for Penn Global Seminars
Every Penn Global Seminars (PGS) program participant will pay a flat program fee of only $950, which is eligible for financial aid. This flat fee serves as the student contribution toward the full program travel experience and includes round-trip airfare, all hotels and accommodations, all ground transportation, entrance fees, translation and guide services, and group meals. Students will only be responsible for the cost of any personal meals and incidentals, as well as any visa/consular fees. For detailed information about PGS funding, please review the PGS Funding & Application Process page.
Funding for the Global Research & Internship Program
All students participating in a summer internship abroad as part of the Global Research & Internship Program (GRIP) will be given a funding award by Penn Abroad to offset program costs. For detailed information about GRIP funding and program costs, please review the GRIP Program Details page.
Outside Scholarships
We also encourage you to explore outside scholarship opportunities. While some scholarships are for students going abroad to particular countries, specific program types, or to pursue particular academic disciplines, there are outside funding sources available for students with any background or interest area.
