GRIP Summer 2022: Engineering Opportunities

The Global Research & Internship Program offers outstanding undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to intern or conduct research with a variety of organizations and companies abroad for 8 to 12 weeks over the summer. In Summer 2022, there are a number of placement opportunities focused on engineering, including several exciting research opportunities.
Summer 2022 Engineering Placement Highlights

Engineering Research in Aachen
This program is a research placement with the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) International at RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany. UROP International is designed for students from North American universities who wish to gain research experience by conducting research projects at RWTH Aachen University. It takes place during a ten-week research summer school between the middle of May and the end of July. The program consists of three components: a research project at a University research institute or lab; comprehensive and intensive workshops on German, intercultural learning, scientific methods, and research practice; and extracurricular activities that will allow students to learn about German history and culture and meet German and international students.

Engineering Research in Singapore
This program is part of the Summer Engineering Research Internship for U.S. Students (SERIUS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The SERIUS program provides students from specific U.S. partner universities to conduct research at the National University of Singapore (NUS). In addition to developing research skills and finding out what’s at the cutting edge in engineering and technology, students learn from faculty and researchers who are experts in their field in a different culture. Undergraduate SEAS students can apply for up to three projects in the following engineering fields: biomedical, biomolecular, chemical, civil, computer, environmental, electrical, industrial/systems, materials, and mechanical.

Drishti Works
Founded by a Penn alumnus, Mr. Ankit Somani, Drishti Works develops and builds self-driving robots for various industries such as agriculture, defense, lifeguarding, logistics, and many more industries. Their core deployment will be for Search and Rescue and life safety use cases. Students who are interested in working in the field of robotics and AI to develop their skills in business and/or engineering are encouraged to apply. Penn students who have interned at Drishti Works in the past have recommended the placement for students who are looking to work within a team environment and who are open-minded towards different working cultures.
