GRIP: Social Impact in Buenos Aires

In Argentina I had a goal of expanding and deepening my passions. My passions included communications, global communication, politics, culture and people in general.

So, at the company I interned for, I hoped to work with these interests. At Fundación Nueva Generación Argentina (FNGA), I was able to work, challenge and grow these passions. With FNGA, I learned about Argentina, about Argentinian politics, and about myself.

Since it was an election year, a lot of my work revolved around this. I was able to observe how elections worked, the climate of electoral candidates, and saw how a political communication team worked.

My intern was based in the Argentinian Senate, where I was able to see how the Senate worked (or didn’t work at times). For the Senate, I helped craft a summary of what Senator Dionisio Scarpín did during his time in office. This project specifically allowed me to combine my interests for design, writing, research and communication. I was able to use my Spanish to the fullest extent by talking and writing always in Spanish.

For FNGA, I also researched about topics that interested me like climate change, immigration, and the environment. I had the opportunity to take this research and write an article that was published in La Capital.

Overall, my time at FNGA and the Senate proved to me that I really love communication. I am interested in working with sharing information whether that be visually, orally, or written. I am also very interested in South America and with GRIP I was able to spend some moments experiencing S.A upfront. My time at FNGA also sparked new interests such as working in politics, working in Argentina, and economy. Additionally, I was able to explore climate change, political economy, and elections.

I am very excited to see where my interests take me. I hope to use my interests to find a future career working in Latin America. I would love to continue working in the international development and communication sectors. GRIP gave me the platform to expand my passions and use them first hand. I am thankful for my time in Argentina and my time used to grow my knowledge on Argentina and the Spanish language. I am excited to return, to work with FNGA from a distance with what I can, and to keep up with Argentine elections from afar. I hope to see Argentina very soon!

The Global Research and Internship Program (GRIP) provides outstanding undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to intern or conduct research abroad for 8 to 12 weeks over the summer.
