PGS: Darwin’s Laboratory: History, Philosophy, Evolution and Social Ecology in the Galápagos Archipelago
Allison is a senior from Buffalo studying neuroscience with minors in healthcare management and creative writing. This semester, she’ll travel to the Galápagos Islands with the PGS, Darwin’s Laboratory: exploring the islands through the lens of evolutionary theory, its development, and climate policy. On campus, she is involved in the Student Harm Reduction Coalition, Shelter Health Outreach Program, Penn Tae Kwon Do, Cosmic Writers, the Excelano Project, and research in the Chen Lab. Outside the classroom, you can find her taking a nap in the Clark Park Dog Bowl, frolicking through Philly with friends, or learning dances. She’s passionate about the intersection of medicine, sociocultural context, and policy, as well as how storytelling can build bridges across communities and systems.
During her upcoming trip, she is particularly looking forward to…
- BIRDS. Including but not limited to: blue-footed boobies, flightless cormorants, frigatebirds, and the Galápagos penguins
- Spotting the iconic giant tortoises and sea lions (& honing her wildlife photography!)
- Snorkeling in the open ocean and surviving to tell the tale
- Hiking through Isabella Island and the Santa Cruz Highlands
- Learning about conservation from the naturalist guides
