Ask Me About…

  • Study abroad in Southeast Asia
  • Connecting with heritage
  • Balancing school and travel
  • Making friends abroad (none of my friends were in Singapore)
  • Deciding on where to study abroad (choosing a less popular program)

My Experience Abroad

I took classes related to my professional interests (ex. my sustainable and impact investing finance class), while also practicing Mandarin in every day life. I avoided taking elective classes early on in college, so I had a lot of space to study whatever I wanted while abroad–this freedom made my study abroad experience less stressful and allowed me to pick classes purely for enjoyment. Since Singapore is becoming the financial hub, not just of Southeast Asia but of all of Asia, it was a great experience to see the professional/cultural differences between Singapore and New York.

Other Highlights

  • Visited 9 countries in 5 months
  • Made friends from all around the world, who I traveled and explored Singapore with
  • “Work, Life, and Play”: a psychology class based on empirical research that transformed how I approach intentionally designing my life
  • Practiced my Mandarin (my “mother tongue”) and connected with my heritage
