Hana Menkari
CAS ’27
GRIP: Legal Research at University of Minho Law School
Hana is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences studying International Relations with a concentration in Human Rights, and a minor in Religious Studies. During the summer, she will be in the city of Braga, Portugal working as a Legal Research Intern to advance research on human rights. Hana is excited about exploring Portugal and understanding the differences between Portuguese and Spanish in everyday life (considering that Spanish is the chosen language she is learning in the College).
Hana is from Revere, Massachusetts (a little town outside of Boston) and originally from Morocco. She’s excited about traveling to Europe for the first time and engaging in the culture and cuisine of Portugal. On campus, Hana is the Co-President and Co-Founder of the newly founded Middle Eastern and North African Pre-Law Society Organization (MENAPLS), a PennQuest Leader (4-year commitment), a team leader in the Community Engagement Team of the FGLI Dean Advisory Board, and apart of the social committee in the Phi Alpha Delta Professional Legal Organization (PAD).
Hana is excited about:
- Engaging in the culture and music, and trying new food in the oldest city in Portugal (Braga)
- Understanding linguistic differences and similarities between Spanish and Portuguese — there are especially so many linguistic similarities between Portuguese and Spanish!
- Meeting interns and aspiring lawyers at the University of Minho Law School
- Continuing to learn how to surf and embracing the beautiful beaches (maybe joining a short-term surfcamp)!
- Visiting the churches and monuments and understanding the rich religious history in Braga (the dominance of Roman Catholicism in Braga).
