GRIP: Social Impact in Buenos Aires
Linda Gayle is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences studying international relations. Through GRIP, she is working at Civic Compass in Buenos Aires, Argentina, researching the relationship between technology and democracy, and applying this to developing advocacy training for Latin American nonprofit organizations. Linda is from the coast of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and is looking forward to visiting the Southern Hemisphere for the first time. At Penn, Linda teaches civic education at Philadelphia schools with the Netter Center, edits the Sigma Iota Rho journal of international relations, competes on the intercollegiate Model UN team, and develops recipes for the campus culinary magazine. She loves learning languages — along with Spanish, she studies Russian and French — and is especially excited to refine her Spanish in an immersive professional environment and through a homestay.
Linda is looking forward to:
- Drinking mate (as a tea-and-herbal-drink-lover)
- Walking through Buenos Aires on a literary tour inspired by Borges
- Shopping in Argentine supermarkets and trying Jamón Serrano-flavored potato chips
- Visiting the Pampas and experiencing the legacy of gauchos
- Attempting to get a haircut in Spanish
