PGS: Global Aging: Challenges and Opportunities

Sophia is a junior studying Finance and Legal Studies with a minor in English. This semester,
she will be traveling to Malawi to explore the social, economic, and policy implications of global
aging. Sophia is actively involved on campus in the Penn Hong Kong Student Association, the
Social Impact Consulting Group, MUSE Case Team, and The Signal Society. She also writes for
The WALK, Penn’s fashion magazine, and volunteers with Penn Leads the Vote. Outside of
school, she enjoys watching movies, painting with friends, and trying new food in Philadelphia.
She is passionate about understanding how different regions navigate aging-related challenges
and hopes to explore sustainable, community-driven solutions for aging populations worldwide.
Sophia is particularly looking forward to…

  • Learning about Malawi’s healthcare and social support systems for older adults
  • Engaging with local communities to understand cultural perspectives on aging
  • Exploring the intersection of policy, technology, and elderly care in a global context
  • Trying traditional Malawian cuisine and taking in the natural beauty of Malawi’s landscapes
