Ask me about...

Students should feel free to ask me about my experience participating in study abroad programs as a highly aided student. I can provide insights into navigating the financial aspects of studying abroad, balancing academic responsibilities with cultural immersion, and making the most of available resources. Additionally, I can share how these experiences enhanced my language skills, broadened my understanding of global perspectives, and influenced my academic and professional goals. My journey involved overcoming unique challenges and leveraging support systems, offering valuable lessons on how to maximize the benefits of studying abroad while managing financial constraints.

My Experience Abroad:

Participating in Penn Abroad's South Korea Global Seminar provided a valuable connection between my academic interests and the practical use of language in diverse sectors, including industry and government. Immersing myself in South Korean culture allowed me to apply my language skills in real-world settings, highlighting areas for improvement and deepening my appreciation for effective communication. This experience clarified my career aspirations, revealing a strong interest in a communications role that involves travel and leverages my language abilities. Additionally, the trip enhanced my understanding of the significance of cultural awareness in global interactions, helping me grasp what aspects of travel truly inspire me.

Other Highlights:

My first highlight from my Global Seminar experience was trying my favorite Korean dish, Kimchi Jjigae, in its country of origin. This experience allowed me to appreciate how its flavor and ingredients vary from place to place. Another memorable moment was my visit to South Korea's National Hangeul Museum, where I explored Korea’s unique linguistic heritage, focusing on King Sejong’s contributions and the evolution of the Korean language from its Chinese influences. The third and most memorable highlight, however, was collaborating with my language and in-class partners on a Korean-English research project that examined café culture in both the U.S. and South Korea. This project provided deep insights into the distinctive elements of South Korean café culture and how it contrasts with café culture back home!
