Global Activities Registry

The Global Activities Registry (GAR) is Penn’s central resource for collecting information about the travel plans and activities of faculty, staff, and students preparing to travel abroad for academic, educational, extracurricular, clinical, research, or University business purposes. This information is Pennkey protected, and is used to:

  • Contact travelers in emergencies
  • Assist individuals and groups, as needed, with pre-travel preparations
  • Identify opportunities for closer collaboration on international research and operations

  • Why should I register my travel with the Global Activities Registry?

  • There are several benefits to the Penn Community:

    • Penn can respond more effectively when there is an incident overseas such as a natural disaster or civil unrest by knowing who is in the area.
    • Individuals who enter their flight information in GAR are automatically registered with International SOS, a medical and security assistance company.  ISOS can then begin sending important destination guides and advisories directly to the individual.
    • The Global Activities Registry encourages greater research and operational collaboration across campus by enabling travelers to learn where other members of the Penn community have traveled, or perhaps find other travelers that will be in the same region at the same time.  The Interactive Map feature allows members of the Penn Community to search for Penn travelers and groups by date, country, region, purpose, or school.
