Global Opportunities

We are committed to making international experiences an indispensable part of Penn, whether through study abroad, service learning, or innovative travel initiatives. Penn faculty engage in a wide range of international research projects, many of which provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on global experiences. And once students leave Penn, they become part of our unparalleled global alumni network.

Studying abroad is one of the most exciting opportunities available to a Penn undergraduate. Every year, about 600 Penn students spend a semester or year abroad on a program offered through Penn Abroad – one of the most extensive Study Abroad networks at any Ivy League university.

Penn provides one-of-a-kind opportunities for undergraduates and graduates to take courses from Penn faculty, for Penn credit, in a wide range of locations around the world. The programs range from two to six weeks in length and provide students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in another culture while fulfilling curricular requirements.

Many Penn students are interested in working abroad, and there are a wide variety of excellent opportunities for them to pursue.  Career Services helps both undergraduate and graduate students explore overseas options through counseling sessions, workshops, job and internship resources, online tools such as GoinGlobal, networking opportunities with alumni abroad, recruiting and career fairs  featuring international employers.  Penn Link, the Career Services job board, has both international internships and permanent positions listed on the site.

Summer internships are a great way to gain valuable work experience, along with two to three months of immersion in an international culture.  They are available to both Penn undergraduate and graduate students, in a wide range of industries and global locations, through the International Internship Program (IIP).

Grants and fellowships can be one of the best ways for students to travel to exciting international locations, as part of their overall educational experience.  Penn’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships provides extensive resources, information, and support for a wide variety of activities, including study abroad and fellowships for international graduate studies.
