Student Voices
Madison Jones - SEAS '21

"What I liked most about my favorite class is that it introduced me to lesser-known neighborhoods around London that I might have missed otherwise. By taking classes specific to the city where I was studying, I left London feeling incredibly connected to its history and culture."

Opportunities at a Glance
Semester Study Abroad

Establish yourself in a new global community through extended study for a semester or year. This is the opportunity to embrace and adapt to new challenges, collaborate with people from different backgrounds and gain experience that you will carry with you in your career, and throughout your life. Penn Abroad partners with institutions around the globe that are academically well-matched for engineering students with a variety of programs approved for SEAS credit.

Global Research & Internship Program

The Global Research & Internship Program (GRIP) enhances your career potential through life-changing global experience. This unique program provides outstanding undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to intern or conduct research outside of the United States for 8 to 12 weeks over the summer. The program offers pre-approved placements in a wide variety of fields and destinations.

Penn Global Seminars

Penn Global Seminars (PGS) combine intensive semester-long study with a short-term travel component that deepens your understanding of concepts discussed in the classroom. These seminars enable you to take full advantage of essential global learning opportunities regardless of your year or major. The Penn faculty leaders design seminars that travel to unique locations, which offer significant opportunity for cultural exchange and immersion.

Summer Study Abroad

The TU Dortmund International Summer Program in Germany offers you the opportunity to earn academic credit and participate in one of three tracks.  Track themes include Engineering, German and European Studies, or Entrepreneurship.  Fields of study within the Engineering track include Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, Automation and Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science. Students can combine courses from the different tracks, and also have the ability to participate in research with a TU Dortmund faculty member.  All students participate in a mandatory German Language & Culture course.

Penn students must be nominated to participate. Contact Associate Director, Greta Kazenski at kazenski@upenn.edu for more information.
