Health and Societies '21

Adriana Discher is a Health and Societies major in the College, concentrating on Global Health and potentially minoring in Neuroscience and Spanish. Being from Philly, she's scared but excited to leave her comfort zone and travel to Vietnam, South Africa, and Argentina with the International Honors Program. Currently, she is assisting with historical research on the social determinants of health implicated in the experiences of immigrant communities in the nineteenth and early twentieth-century United States. She is an active member of the Student Planning and Events Committee (SPEC) Film and Connaissance branches, Penn Timmy Global Health, ACTION Spanish after school tutoring, and Q-INE Literary Magazine. In her free time, she likes to watch Netflix documentaries, reality TV shows (Bondi Rescue and Nailed It specifically), and practice her very amateur cooking and baking skills. She's excited to spend the next semester learning about health in various international contexts.

During her upcoming semester, she is looking forward to...

  • Going on a journey that will take her to four different continents (North and South America, Asia, and Africa)

  • Being able to see differences in urban and rural health in the context of every country that she is going to visit

  • Having the opportunity to be immersed in a Spanish-speaking environment and practice her Spanish skills

  • Staying with a host family in three different countries

  • Trying new foods!
