Jasmine Guaillasaca Quizhpi is a rising third-year student in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in World History and Latin American & Latinx Studies with a minor in Native American & Indigenous Studies. In the fall, she will be traveling to Quito, Ecuador, where she will study at Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Originally from Irvington, NJ, Jasmine finds a home on campus in La Casa Latina. Currently, she is a peer mentor with the Penn First-Year Program, the external chair of Quechua at Penn/The Andean Representation, and serves on the undergraduate advisory board for the Center of Latin American and Latinx Studies. During her free time, she enjoys watching documentaries, delving into Andean philosophy, and exploring Philadelphia with her friends.

In her upcoming semester, Jasmine is most looking forward to:

  • Learning about various Indigenous Ecuadorian languages and improving her Kichwa
  • Celebrating Ecuadorian holidays, especially the foundation of Quito
  • Documenting her trip to the Galápagos Islands
  • Living in the Amazon rainforest for a week
  • Visiting historical sites across Quito
