My Experience Abroad:

While in Barcelona, I had the chance to be enrolled in the bilingual BBA program at ESADE in Barcelona. Barcelona is a wonderful city with a rich history in art and culture spanning many centuries. I enjoyed seeing many of Gaudí’s architectural feats, and impressive artistic exhibits in Museo Nacional del Prado, MACBA, Fundació Joan Miró, Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya among others.

ESADE is designed to be an international epicenter where students from all across the globe come together within an integrated and collaborative academic community. My courses were taken entirely in Spanish and analyzed advanced micro and macroeconomic topics in management, negotiation, data in business, and financing. The structure of these courses was centered around completing practical cases and presenting on these topics in front of our peers. As such, I was able to increase my presentational and professional skills in Spanish greatly.

Through this experience, not only did I have the opportunity to meet many wonderful people from across the globe but I also had the chance to travel across Europe and Northern Africa to cross places off of my bucket list, such as Switzerland and Monte-Carlo, as well as visit places I did not think I would ever visit, such as Marrakech, Ibiza, and the Tenerife.

Other Highlights:

  • Meeting new friends and living in Barcelona.

  • My weekend trip to Ibiza culminated in going to see Solomon at Pacha Ibiza, staying until closing time at around 7 am, and talking to the taxi driver on the way back to the hotel to catch a bus at 7:30 to go to a Ferry back to Barcelona.

  • Going to Oktoberfest in Munich for the closing weekend (remember, Oktoberfest is in September not October!)

  • Playing Blackjack (losing my money) in Le Casino de Monte-Carlo. One of the more elegant places I saw and I would recommend practicing counting cards before you try it at a casino.

  • Admiring art and culture in Barcelona (Fundación de Joan Miró, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, La Sagrada Familia) and Madrid (Museo Nacional del Prado, Royal Palace of Madrid, Temple de Debod.)

  • Seeing the entire Moroccan and North African population in Barcelona celebrate in Las Ramblas and Plaça Catalunya after Morocco beat Spain in the World Cup.
